B/W Laser Printer
« on: September 05, 2006, 11:26:48 PM »
Does anybody know of a monochrome (B/W) Laser Printer that works with iMac G5 1st generation OS 10.4.7?

I bought a Samsung model ML-2010 but it does not print, even though the packing box says it supports Mac OS 10.3 and up.

So I sent the following message to customer support:

-------------------------------------------–
My computer:
iMac G5 rev.A OS 10.4.7
Printers installed: Canon i860, HP 4215

ML-2010 does not print.

Just bought this ML-2010 today. Installed Mac driver from the supplied CD. My computer sees the ML-2010 as an Office Jet ML-2010. The computer's Printer Utility shows my many attempts at printing with the ML-2010 as having been completed even though it did not print. The printer's On Line/Error indicator is green.

Downloaded from the Samsung website the latest driver for Mac OS 10.3 and up, 20050706092625046_Samsung_SPL2_Installer.dmg version 1.08 updated 2006-07-18. Uninstalled the previous driver from the CD and installed the website one. Same results, jobs completed but no printing.

I notice that the USB connection on the ML-2010 is USB 1. My computer is USB 2. Would that be the reason why the ML-2010 does not print? If so is there a way to fix this?

-------------------------------------------–

I received the following answer:

Hi Jacques,

I am sorry but we do not support the MAC operating system.  If the driver is not printing, try removing the other printers from the list and reinstall the drivers we provide.  If this allows you to print reinstall the other printer drivers bac fro the HP and Canon printers.  It is possible that the software is conflicting with our software preventing you to print properly.  If that is the case contact MAC for support to resolve the software conflicts.  If you think the problem is USB, try using another port on your computer.

-------------------------------------------–

So I uninstalled the Canon i860 and HP 4215 printers and the Samsung ML-2010 and reinstalled the ML-2010. It still does not print, but then my Printers Utility does not see it anymore. So I’ll be returning it later today for a refund.

Hence my question at the beginning of this post.

Is there any possibility that the USB port on your computer is not good? Did you try a different port? Or maybe the cable from the printer is bad.

Apple has lists of Mac compatible stuff:

Just click in the 'Laser' button and then 'Search'. I got a list of 185 Laser printers. ohmy.gif

Thanks Krissel.

All USB ports and cables are alive and well. I was hoping that somebody here would have a positive experience with a particular model.

I had a problem on a iMAC G5 that wouldn't print from "any" printer and I downloaded and applied the Printer Setup Repair option which uninstalls the entire printing subsystem and then reinstalls it.  Then I reinstalled the printer and it worked.  There is a different version of the software for 10.2, 10.3, 10.4 and as it doesn't cost anything to try it's probably worth a shot!
