I've been given the run around by Cingular over new PDA/

Currently, I have a Nokia 6800 and a Palm T2 as my portable electronic devices. I decided that I wanted an all-in-one phone and organizer with both blue tooth and Wi-Fi that would work with a Mac. So off I trotted to Cingular store to see waht was available. Then the probelms began. Cingular people told me that if I buy a Blackberry or a Palm Treo, I would have to use their network to connect to my internet and e-mail ISP. Of course the singular network involves extra monthly charges. I tried to tell them I just wanted to connect to my Mac or to my ISP via Wi-Fi. They said no can do!

They also tried to tell me I could buy a Windows mobile unit and connect via Internet Explorer and Outlook. I told them that I did not want to do that and basically they told me to go to another phone supplier.

My question is were these people correct in saying the Treo or Blackberry rerquires their internet service and that they won't work with a Mac. Also, can anyone tell a combo phone and PDA that will work with the Mac and has Wi-Fi and Bluetooth and where I can connect to my own ISP if, for example, I connect via a hotel'ds Wi-Fi network. I know one cannot buy a phone independent of a p[hone service such as Cingular or verizon.

By the way, my ISP that supports my ISP is Verizon and my domain, c-fourth.com is supported by SBC.

Didn't SBC buy AT&T's telephone division and change their name to AT&T? I know the name changed here. SBC was my telephone company, and now my bills say AT&T.
Ya gotta applaud those bunnies for sacrificing their hearing just so some guy in Cupertino can have better TV reception.

gregg,

I think Cingular bought AT&T mobile service. As far as telephone service I do not know. My SBC bill still says SBC. In order to get mail or anything from my domain, I still go from Verizon to SBC. It's a pain but Verizon DSL does not support domain names and SBC doen't exist in Oregon.
