Recommendations for speakers for B&W G3
« on: October 19, 2006, 05:43:45 PM »
Good Evening All,

I am looking for a speakers for the B&W G3 450MHz 100MHz Bus and need some recommendations. As this is an older system, what speakers would work with this effectively. I want to buy these as a nice surprise for my husband, who does online publishing of a newsletter for Christian music. He goes to so many websites to listen to the music before adding the artist(s) to the newsletter. I thought it might provide a better listening experience for him.

Any recommendations would be sincerely appreciated.

Blessings and Prayers,
MrsLop

Lots of recommendations in The Sound of Music thread.

Harmon Kardon was highly recommended. I'm pretty sure any of the speakers in that thread would work with your system.

thanx.gif kimmer,

I will have to do some more research about the B&W and the specs and then do a comparison. I really need to know about how they connect to this system and whether or not their USB or what kinds of plugs they have.

I'll check out that thread, though.

Blessings and Prayers,
MrsLop

Hello again, Myrna,

I e-mailed Kris and your machine has a stereo mini-jack audio output... and input.  There are some great deals out there, so definitely read Kimmer's thread, because there were some great links to go with great deals.

Also, if you e-mail Kris, she can tell you exactly what will work, because she knows your new machine backwards and forwards!

xo,

I checked out the Logitech that Chris recommended in the other thread and it is on sale for $39.

http://www.jr.com/JRProductPage.process?Product=4068127

It got excellent reviews here:

http://www.compusa.com/products/product_in...+Remote+Control

Main negative was the cord is short.

Even cheaper:

At worst you may need an adapter to go into the miniplug and could get it from Radio Shack.

I have Harmon Kardon (the clear plastic sticky ones and the roundish blob) speakers and they are very nice and work very well.  The audio speakers of my iBook are pathetic and I can listen to broadband radio (Classic FM) all day and they are clear and very nice.  Weird to look at though!

I would plumb them into my beige G3 with no bother.  Sure they would be fine and a lovely surprise - lucky husband!

Myrna -

The CompUSA powered spks I mentioned in Kimmer's thread sound quite good and cost only $20.

IMO, there is no reason to spend more to get cute looks or a big brand name.

Good Day to you kbear,

Thanks kbear. I did read all of the replies and followed the links in kimmer's topic.

One thing that I have learned is that what you see on the outside is no real indication of what is inside. Companies routinely have parts made by another and simply brand them as their own. So, price is no real indicator of the quality of the sound.

It was the specs that I was concerned with. There's no point in overbuying, if the system couldn't handle the wattage. There's no point in my buying something brand new if the connections aren't going to work.  dntknw.gif

I went to the CompUSA site and they have the speakers in nearby Massachusetts at the $ 19.99 price tag. They were out of stock in Rhode Island stores.

Blessings and Prayers,
Myrna

Hello Myrna,

Most of these speakers, including the Logitech ones I have, come with the proper mini-plug that will work out of the box with your computer.

Good Morning Chris,

That's what I needed to know!

I really dislike having to return things because I chose the wrong device for my system. Besides, doing the research saves time and money. I won't waste gasoline driving around from store to store.

Love, Blessings and Prayers,
Myrna

Harmon/Kardon's all the way!
By far my favorite speaker

I have the generic Dell speakers which are H/K's
that get loud enough to fill an entire room.

Best speakers ever, at the best prices!
