CD reader gone blind

All's well - so I thought.  Have not used my CD reader since before my recent crash in Aug.  '06

Went to select my 'Microtek X6EL Scan options in my Apple Menu and it came up 'blank'  So, I tried to reload in my MicroTek CD software and no acknowledgement appeared on my DeskTop  - - - Thinking that I had a faulty device, I replaced the CD with another device from my 'bone-yard' along with an alternate, 4-wire audio link - NOTHING.

Any thoughts to help me keep this old tub of digits and widgits alive will be appreciated.

Me, (neokm) Again,

FYI, my "System Profiler" does not recognize a CD in the "Drives and Devices"

I've also tried other CD's thinking that I might have a bum CD and nothing pops up on my DT.

All term. connections are positive and the mechanics of the CD seem to function OK i.e.    tray in-out, and the normal audio-girgitation you hear when it's about to pop-up on the DT

Hitting the sack - will check in EST/Daylight

Apple CD Driver must be kaput - - -  going to reload the whole OS 9.2 in the AM

Was going to suggest extension problem but a clean install should take care of that.
