Apple OK's use of "podcast"
« on: November 29, 2006, 08:38:33 PM »
QUOTE
Cameron Reilly at Australia's ThePodcastNetwork says one of his guys has received a letter from the trademark people at Apple Computer. It says, "Apple does not object to ... usage of the generic term 'podcast' to accurately refer to podcasting services. Apple does not license the term 'podcast'."

The letter, on stationery from Apple's (AAPL: news) offices in Cupertino, Ca., is illegibly signed by someone in the "Apple Trademark Department."

Dave Gray, host of the Global Geek Podcast, received the letter after sending Apple $1 to get the company's OK to use the term 'podcast." Earlier this fall, there were concerns Apple was trying to TM it.

Apple also returned Gray's dollar.

So, no need for kleenex to dry their eyes when someone makes a Mint with "Podcast". They'll just have to kick back and enjoy a coke or something. wink.gif
Ya gotta applaud those bunnies for sacrificing their hearing just so some guy in Cupertino can have better TV reception.
