Techsurvivors Won't Load
« on: December 03, 2006, 09:45:33 PM »
I've been having problems over the past few days in connecting to the site. It's happened at least a dozen times, the most recent a few minutes before this post. This notice appears:
QUOTE
Unable to connect
Firefox can't establish a connection to the server at www.techsurvivors.net.
  *   The site could be temporarily unavailable or too busy. Try again in a few
          moments.

    *   If you are unable to load any pages, check your computer's network
          connection.

    *   If your computer or network is protected by a firewall or proxy, make sure
that Firefox is permitted to access the Web.
There is a "Try Again" button under that notice. I've cleared the cookies, the cache and the memory and restarted the machine and Firefox, to no avail. When I got through this time, I decided to post this, in case the next time never ends. Could there be a problem with the server?

Don't know, but we'll put Sandbox on it.  He's the server guru.

Thank you for letting us know!!

Thanks for heads up D76, I suspect the server had a load spike or it was being serviced at the time, Sundays are when many services are performed across the industry. I just check the server stats and it seems to be UP now, if you have any further glitches I would appreciate hearing from you.  smile.gif

Dolphin, I'm sorry I can't help with the FONT color, it's a BB software issue that possibly Kris, in our arts department, may be able to address. wink.gif

Roy, according to your profile you are using TS skin which does show colors when I use it. Maybe it was temporary or your browser is at fault?

While we are on the subject, I had trouble accessing TS the other night (Friday?) for about a half hour around 1-2 AM EST. Probably you all were sleeping so you didn't notice. smile.gif

Kris, I had problems on Friday too (I think it was Friday...) and Tom sent an email earlier this evening that he was having issues too.

I got that same Connect error tonight [right after Tom's email came in], and when I tried again about a minute later, it connected just fine.

Kris, the colors box is working this morning.  You have got to be THE nightowl of TS for sure.

I too have had some issues connecting with TS over the last week or so, usually it resolves in a minute or two... Same kind of messages as posted in this thread...

You may have noticed in the past few weeks that the world has been bombarded with Spam. Everyone in the anti-spam or server business has been in a defensive posture, including our friends at "A Small Orange", the host of our site. New software is being written to combat the plaque and more attention is being paid to prevent the buildup of this spam on the servers and the activity it creates but, any early warning from our members would be helpful so that we can shorten the time of interruption or correct problems before they get out of hand.

If you notice an interruption in service, even for a short time, just post what you find if you can or when you can, so that we can take a more active roll in preserving the integrity of our server and service.

We’ve been on this server since June, and thus far the service has been remarkable, but it, like any server, can be effected by outside forces.

When I find a problem with getting access I usually try another freshly started browser, just in case there’s a cache issue on the one I’m using. If another browser is able to open to my home page and not open to TS then I can assume that the issue is not my network or browser but the TS server.

So post away, and don’t hesitate to let us know that there’s a service interruption when it occurs.

Thanks hi.gif

Add me to the list of people having trouble recently with this site. It's one of those darned intermittent problems. Can't fix it when it ain't broke.
Ya gotta applaud those bunnies for sacrificing their hearing just so some guy in Cupertino can have better TV reception.

*That board shares a server with *the* Clay Aiken board. It's horrid when all his fans log on. hehehe

Couldn't connect again. It took more than a minute to haul the site up, then when I was in, I clicked on the log-in button but got the "unable to connect" notice. I clicked on the "try again" button and it worked.
