My Dad wants to get a DVD Player/recorder/VCR combo. Have been looking at the Panasonics below (though would not necessarily get from that store):
http://www.circuitcity.com/ssm/Panasonic-D...roductDetail.dohttp://www.circuitcity.com/ssm/Panasonic-D...roductDetail.dohttp://www.circuitcity.com/ssm/Panasonic-D...roductDetail.doThe first two are similar, the third has an 80G hard drive. Customer opinions are all over the place.
Does anyone here have a unit similar in capabilities that they can recommend or advise avoiding?
Also, are any of these (or other) DVD player recorders setup so you can connect your own hard drive for recording through the unit? I really am not sure of the capabilities of these things so any additional info would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.
Kris,
Still up, eh?
While I don't know much about any of these particular units, I can tell you that my experience with component audio/visual brands lead me in this category to either choose Panasonic, or JVC. I have not had good luck with others. Also, if there is a compatible output (such as S-video) on any of these, you should conceivably be able to pass the signal through to the computer, as long as the computer is capable of receiving digital video input.
A call or e-mail to either Circuit City, or my personal favorite for these kinds of purchases, J&R Music World, with that particular question would probably be a good idea.
If your Dad likes to time shift what he views, I definitely recommend getting the DVR set-up, especially if you have digital cable or satellite.
That being said, DVR services are also available from either Dish or Direct TV, but the cost varies whether you are a new subscriber or a current one, and both charge a $5.99 fee a month for the DVR service.
Hope this helps!
