Changing
« on: January 18, 2007, 05:07:01 PM »
I'm at my daughter's this afternoon finishing up the details of "delivering" my Igloo to her capable hands.

Have gotten "her" password and the name of "my"  admin account changed to hers, but I just realized that she's stuck with my original Short Name for the computer.

I fear that can only be changed by wiping the drive . . . right?

Any alternative at all? Anyone know of some little program that might do it? This might be one of the few times I'd attempt Terminal, if that's what it takes.

Thanks, Kelly.

You're right. Not for the faint hearted, like this shrinking violet.  blush-anim-cl.gif

I'll wait 'til I have time to wipe the drive and really start from scratch.

Dick,

Apparently this takes all the grief out of the process. See Change Short Name (Donationware).

It was written by Dan Frakes and has a 4.6 star rating at VersionTracker.

Still, the counsel of others is warranted, and a verified backup is worth the effort (IMNHO)---just in case. eek2.gif

When I partitioned my new drive, I thought hard about the names for about 2 minutes, because I knew I wouldn't be changing 'em. Came up with a real catchy system: P1 8GB : P2 24GB : etc.

Maybe I need that program!
Ya gotta applaud those bunnies for sacrificing their hearing just so some guy in Cupertino can have better TV reception.
