The dark side of computing!

I just read about a study that says that "65 Percent of Americans Spend More Time with Their Computer than Their" significant other.  Also 8 out of 10 people are more dependent (addicted?) to their computers than they were even 4 years ago:

Also I was listening to a story on NPR over the noon hour that talked about the "darkside of computers" the addiction to computer games like Everquest and World of Warcraft.  There is a large effort going into "treating" computer addiction with the 12 step program and other psychological techniques and they talked about a guy who spent 60-80 hours a week playing a computer game and how he lost his family.  Hug someone who isn't virtual today!   dry.gif

One way to lessen the amount of time one spends alone with a computer is to use a portable...  Then you aren't relegated to an isolated location. These days my wife and I spend a lot more time together in the living room while one of us uses an iBook (usually my wife) and the other is doing something else.

Boy, was the receptionist surprised!

Our computer (desktop) overlooks the living room. So when one of us is using it, we can see and converse with anyone below. It's a great setup.
Ya gotta applaud those bunnies for sacrificing their hearing just so some guy in Cupertino can have better TV reception.
