Euphonious iPod Epiphany

With impaired hearing, I have been reluctant even to explore iPods as a source (for me) of information/entertainment. I don't need no (more) stinkin' ear buds, donchano?

Until last Thursday.    clap.gif

A client "forced" me to borrow an extra one he had, especially handy (he asserted) for my 5 hour flight home from Hawaii Friday afternoon. My noise-cancelling headset worked flawlessly with it and so now I know why tens of millions of those amazing devices have been sold. (Just because wisdom comes late, don't reject it) .   coolio.gif

However, now my question is: What's the best device (in TeeEss' collective experience) through which to play an iPod via the speaker(s) in an older sedan, i.e. no built-in jack. We have a long road trip coming up next weekend. Some music could be a pleasant addition to the journey, but the abundance of podcasts is what truly energized my iPod enthusiasm on Friday. BIG TIME.

Thanks for any advice based on experience you might wish to post.

Environmental observation: Because "it's a Mac" I didn't feel any need for any preliminary instruction, anticipating that I could figger-it-out. But, at 40,000 feet, and no manual I, in fact, was encountering problems with initially adjusting the volume. However, it finally dawned on me that there were at least 6-8 iPods being used within 2 rows of where I was sitting, most conveniently, one was by a young passenger sitting next to me. So I asked. Simple as that.  cheer.gif

I second Kelly's suggestion. Simple, cheap and it works - unlike the several options involving broadcasting on already-overcrowded airwaves which seem rather temperamental. Think we got ours at Amazon smile.gif

Because my car is equipped with a CD player, I use an iTrip with my iPod mini. It doesn't work well at all. The next radio I get, or the next car I get will certainly have a radio that integrates with the iPod.

At home, I use a Kensington Dock. It's a bare bones dock that powers the iPod and connects to my stereo via supplied cable to the auxiliary jack. I say bare bones because you basically setup the iPod using the controls on the unit itself, then you control only the volume and pause/play with a remote device that comes with the dock.

I found the Kensington Dock on sale for about $30 on dealmac.

Dick, be aware that not all "tape adapters" work in all machines.  I tried one, and darned if I can remember whether it was in my Camry, or the Accord that I got about 7 yrs. ago, when one of my neighbs totalled my Camry, but it wouldn't work at all!
