I'm going back to the standard typwriter and ribbon technology. The computer industry is bleeding everyone dry (M$) not to metion names, but it's cheaper to buy a new computer with Vista on it.
Yet there's another problem with bying PC';s these days. You don't get a reinstall CD if anything goes wrong with your OS, and you have to have a DVDRW to make your backup disk, but if the firmware isn't up to date, then you're screwed.
A friend of mine bout an HP and there was no recovery disc, then the computer needed firmware updates that created another problem with her DVD burner, so she ended up spending 39.00 for the recover disc, and another 15 for shipping; not to mention the hour or so she spent on hold with HP assistant line.
The phone call wasn't free either. She got a bill for the call that was close to 50 bucks, and ended up taking the HP back to the retailer and told them that it didn't work properly.
After Comp USA tried to burn a recov er disc for her and the drive didn't work, they were kind enough to give her her mnies, but tried to get her to take another one.
The good thing about Apple is that you do get your recovery discs included with your purchase. If Apple did away with that, then this would be my last Apple computer on my desk.
