Circuit City

I have not seen it written anyplace and nothing on here about it (unless it snuck by me), but while checking Circuit City's web page I find it is now selling the entire Intel based  Apple product line.

Any hot skinny here???

I hadn't heard that. However, I can tell you that in the past when the local circuit city stores have carried Macs, the Macs usually ended up in a back corner, were not maintained (usually frozen or not working) and the staff knew NOTHING about the Mac OS. I was glad when they stopped carrying them.  angry.gif

I've had mixed experiences in KC and Wichita at COMPUSA and Circuit City.  There is generally only one MAC experienced person in sales if you're lucky.  I can generally answer my own questions and have ended up answering questions for other people who were perplexed by things about MAC OS X and MAC hardware.  I'm reminded of the fun scene recorded on that one website when mobs of people in the right color shirts showed up a a computer retailer!   smile.gif

Over the last few years CompUSA's been better than Circuit City had been in their Mac area. However, I also have ended up being an unpaid salesman for the Macs in their stores. rolleyes.gif

I gather from the responses that Circuit City has/have been offering Mac's before. We have a store here that has been open about a year and heretofore when questioned about Apple the response had always been negative. All of the comments re CompUSA are consistant.  For years they were the only option within a 100 mile radius to actually SEE the product line, and they absolutly knew nothing about Macs.  Guess I will have to get out more.   Thanks

As I recall, when Apple came out with the 1st iMac and sold as Circuit City, Apple had a problem with the eOne that also was sold at Circuit City.  Me and others reported back to Apple about how sales people at Circuit City didn't try and sell the iMac, but instead told me and many others that the eMachine was a much better machine than Apple's iMac.

Apple did send in their own people to numerous stores undercover to prove that that was what happened.

Apple and Circuit City had problems and there was some kind of settlement/agreement between Apple and Circuit City and the sales of Apple Products.  This was done so long ago I forget exactly what the settlemnt was and what Apple and CC agreed to when it came to selling Apple computers.

I don't shop or like CC due to how they bashed Apple products in order to push the eOne(iMac cloned for PCers).

CompUSA, Bestbuys, and other places sell Apple products online, but not in their stores.  The Apple stores in the Malls have made a huge impact on Apple sales for all those that are mall-rats and looking for a computer.

Bestbuys sells Apples on their website, but not in their stores, and have no Apple products on display with the exception of the iPod, and soon iPhone.  Go figure? Thinking.gif

I am also waiting for Apple to come out with a media center to connect to the TV.  I want a computer, DVDRW drive and all the ram and remotes that will allow me to do what the Sony Media Center does for the consumer.  It'll free up space and also get me into using a wireless keyboard/mouse/remote.

I've tried the Sony Vaio Media Center, but returned it.  Froze up too many times, and not all that upgradable either.   Groaner.gif

Maybe I'll stop in a CC someday to see what the store looks like today, but Fry's and the Apple Store, and Bestbuy is really the ony places I shop for electronics.

In the land famous for growing the "apple of the earth" there's no Apple Store? That's a shame!

Boise?

NB,

Are you sure you want a media center to connect to a TV? Do you have an HDTV, or hi rez TV?

Stuff that looks good on a computer screen looks pretty lousy on a TV, especially text.

Boise?

Boise is over 400 miles from here.  Closest Apple Store is in the Seattle area, approx 250 miles. There are a couple stores there now I understand. While Spokane Wa is only 50 miles away, no Apple store there either.  Price you pay for choosing to live in north Idaho I guess. ( I can live with it ) all of my Mac products since 1991 were purchased via the catalog or internet route.

Jack W, I do have HDTV's in both my living room and bed room, but the Sony Vaio Media center Computer was just a lousy piece of junk carrying the Sony logo only.

You can upgrade to a higher video card, and only up to 2 gigs of ram.  Not all that impressive considering that you are spending close to 2K and sometimes over 2K for it.

Actually Best Buy is part of the trial program that Apple is conducting a la Circuit City which will put the computers in the stores as well as the iPods. Supposedly they have specially trained salespeople.

Better than the I-90 route, eh? Your post sent me to my atlas. Seattle to Boston, with your fair city in between.... (not to mention Chicago, Cleveland... etc.)
