Okay here's the deal.

I am looking to try somethin a bit different. you may call me strange, odd, looney, or whatever! That's okay!

What I am looking to do is to take a laptop, remove the monitor from it and then connect it to my LCD display.

Can this be done? Am I trying something strange and stupid?

I wanted to get a PC box for school, but then I don't really want a big toaster box to haul back and forth, and I don't want to have to look at two screens (laptop & ext. LCD).

If anyone has tried this, done it, please let me know, because I would rather have something small and simple to sit on my keyboard tray.

Sounds like that would involve some rather intricate "re-wiring"!

Do you just like the larger screen of the other monitor?

My snow G3 iBook is my only computer. I have not modified it in any way, since I often take it on the road when we travel.

I have cabled a 17-inch LCD monitor, a full-size keyboard, and a "real" mouse to it, making it function like a desktop model. I simply leave the cover open about an inch and everything works fine, day in and day out.

I see no reason to cripple your laptop.

So I can connect an external keyboard and mouse, and connect it to my lcd TV and not have to open up my laptop in order to use?

I didn't think about taking that route. Sounds like something to try with my PC laptop.

I think if you close the cover completely, your computer becomes unusable. Leave it open about an inch. Prop it open if you need to.

Not exactly what I had in mind, but it certainly is an interesting item to look at. I am more of trying to go in the direction of a computer built beneath the keyboard that has usb ports and a port to connect it to the LCD TV.

I think it would be a "KOOL" item that would cut out oll the clutter, and if the keyboard was wireless alonywitht the mouse, then all you have is 2 cables. One or power, and the other to connect to the LCD monitor/TV.

You might want to do some research on what resolutions/screen sizes your laptop supports, it may not be able to make full use of that monitor. I'll leave that exercise as a learning experience for you.
