Powerbook g4 10.4.8 wont start up gets to blue screen after gray then nothing? tried safe mode boot?

Have you dropped it recently? My daughter had a similar issue about a week after her iBook was knocked off a table by her kitten. The hard drive was dead. (The guy at the Apple Store genius bar compared it to dying from a head injury about a week after getting hit in the head.)
Can you "find" the drive when you boot up from another start-up disk--such as DiskWarrior?

Any non-Apple peripherals connected? Keyboards, mice, printers, external drives, cup warmers, etc.
