Daylight Saving Time

No real surprise, but the Software Update Daylight Savings Time Patch worked flawlessly in both 10.3.9 and in 10.4.8

Interesting - I didn't do anything and it did it all by itself. I do have the "set date and time automatically" which checks with Apple's network time-server, so I guess that took care of it.

Same here.  

Not sure what the big deal is though.  It would of taken 10 seconds to change it manually.  I guess it is the convenience factor.

It worked great on 10.4.8, altho I had to change time zone from Denver to Phoenix since AZ doesn't observe DST.

I wonder if all the PC users faired as well.

We had some long conversations about "what to do" about this at work.  The prevailing concept was our audience, a lot of teachers, wasn't up for changing things themselves.  I can remember the early computers didn't have real time clocks in them and the time wasn't kept when they were turned off.  If time were an important issue then one typed it in!  I know all the IBM's I dealt with back then didn't have real time clocks, I'm pretty sure the Apple II's didn't.  The hardest "computer" to patch or reset is the little handheld Pocket PC's that the school principals carry and that can be accomplished in less than 30 seconds.  

We pushed down the patches to all of the XP's and that should have done it.  The MAC's have a problem in that they don't seem to get enough bandwidth to get the automatic updates done; they always turn up with failed downloads.  This isn't a problem with the OS X on them (unless they could be more tenacious); this is a problem with lack of bandwidth in the whole district.  In addition having to update to the latest version of each OS (10.4.8 or 10.3.9) is also a problem due to the lack of bandwidth.

I called the "Time" number early Sunday. It was an hour behind.

But, we're in a computer time warp, ya know?

An oddity. We discovered that our brand new Sony DVD-recorder (like owning TiVO without the TiVO) gets its time from PBS and it's an hour off. We reset it and it's an hour off again. I've read several comments from folks that have gadgets that time check with PBS and all of them are an hour behind. Not sure what the deal is.

Sony's answer to us is to turn off the auto-time feature. Which is annoying considering the machine isn't a year old, and this law is 3 (think that's correct) years old.

Ahh, The Chambers Brothers!!!

There actually was a Daylight Savings Time patch that showed up in Software Update for 10.3.9 that I installed on the drive that's presently in the DA machine (from the MDD).

10.4.8 on the iBook wasn't an obvious update... probably did come under the radar with the last security update.

I don't think the 'three week earlier' rule came into effect until last Summer. It made it into the 10.4.8 update, I think. Apparently, PBS does not use that update! I've not even checked our DVD players time setting since the change over...

The new starts and stop dates were set in the Energy Policy Act of 2005, passed by the US Congress on July 29, 2005 and signed into law by President George W. Bush on August 8, 2005.

Changed all the clocks in the house (and the car) over to Daylight Savings Time over the weekend.  Just like every other year before or after computers came along. No big deal.

Just got around to changing the computer's bios manually over to Daylight Savings this morning.

Fedora Core 6 Linux did not notice the time change on it's own.

Bad Fedora Core!  Bad, bad Fedora Core!

The computer was running a few minutes behind, anyway - now everything is on time and up to date.

Not sure that it's actually such a big deal - you just do it yourself.  Though I can see how it might be a big deal to corporations and such.
