Firefox visited websites don't change color anymore
« on: June 11, 2007, 08:16:02 AM »
Previously, in a Google search list, any site I visited would turn from blue to purple. Now, they stay the same color, making it difficult to remember which sites I visited. If not impossible. Is this some kind of short term memory test or cruel joke?

Not sure which version of FF you're using but in 2.0.0.4...
Prefences->Content>Fonts & Colors area>Colors... button>Link Colors section. HTHs. smile.gif

Of course, sites that use CSS can specify what these colors will be, also. But a well designed one will still show at least two different colors.

I checked that (I did not know how to get there), and my preferences are set correctly. I don't know what CSS means. I'm going to restart my computer and see if that is the magic bullet.

If all sites are displaying this 'problem', it's a function of the preferences in FF. Might be worth moving them to the desktop and starting FF up again. Before doing that, I'd check for CSS.

If it is only one specific site, it is a function of Cascading Style Sheets which is the more modern and capable way of specifying all the stying functions of a web page. You can see if the page uses a style sheet by looking at the information in the header of the source for any page. If you'll kindly give us a link to the page, we can do that quickly.

There's nothing wrong with Google's style sheets - it's got to be a local problem, Jim. Let us know if it went away when you restarted, Joan. (You do have "allow pages to choose their own colors" checked in the FF prefs? If you leave it that way, 99% of the time you'll be fine.)

Most other websites behave properly. It's only Google results, I guess. But I tried a search in Altavista, and visited links there didn't change color either. I do  do have "allow pages to choose their own colors" checked in the FF prefs. The problem didn't go away when I restarted. I can't find where the preferences reside in order to move them to the desktop. In the big scheme of things, this is such a tiny annoyance, but it is certainly an annoyance. Any other ideas?

Try dumping your cache and the cookies for related sites.  Couldn't hurt.  smile.gif

Ah ha!

I've noticed this behavior for some sites in the past, while others did what I expected.

In some cases, I'd prefer not to "leave a trail" - like reading news articles on my breaks. police.gif

Ya gotta applaud those bunnies for sacrificing their hearing just so some guy in Cupertino can have better TV reception.

Glad you found a solution, even if I don't understand why a site would want/need that kind of info. dntknw.gif It it works, use it! smile.gif
