Peculiar error message!

I was about to print a document and got this peculiar error message.  It appears to be related to having a camera attached to the computer, which I didn't have. I just removed the paper tray from my printer to add paper and this popped up.  Clicking on the OK button did nothing.

I could open programs and work in them, but it remained in the middle of the screen in front of whatever I had up.

I finally got rid of it by restarting the computer.

Anyone ever see this before?

Must have done something wrong in adding this attachment too... huh.gif

It sounds as if you're running a program called SNAPSHOT that is trying to download files; could this be an extension for the browser you're using?  I'm not familiar with it and I'm logged in from an old PC at my mom-in-laws so I can't check it on a MAC.  Someone should be along anytime now!  smile.gif

Gunug...Snapshot is what you get when you GRAB a portion of the screen when using Preview.

That is a message from Image Capture telling you the cable from your camera to the Mac is not connected properly.
However since you didn't have a camera connected I can only assume your 'jarring' the printer somehow mislead the Mac to read the USB signal from it.

Maybe??? huh.gif

Do you have the settings so Image Capture opens when you connect a camera?

NO I do not Kris?  Never ever used it. When I connect my camera to my iMac...it opens iPhoto by default I guess.

Your statement is not exactly definitive. While you say "No", you suggest that opening in iPhoto is the 'default'. Actually opening/running Image Capture will allow you to view its prefs and see what it 'thinks' it is supposed to do when it 'sees' a camera connected, even if it's a printer! smile.gif IC actually is connected to the OS a little differently than most 'big' apps, it watches the USB ports even when it's not officially 'running'. It's probably some UNIX script that starts IC when it sees something happening on the USB. At any rate, it has 'dibs' on that bus and may just have become confused, as Kriss suggested. Looking at its prefs will confirm they are set correctly.

OTOH, if you said "No" because you already looked at the IC prefs, then delete my snide remarks, slap my hands and accept my apologies! :sad: notworthy.gif Frankly, I'm betting that it was a once in a lifetime* glitch and you won't see it again, no matter what IC prefs are set to. smile.gif

XABD ...your right! I went into Image Capture prefs and sure enough it is set to open iPhoto when a camera is connected. My apologies to you and Kris along with a BIG Thank YOU  notworthy.gif

No apology needed. In fact, your original statement is, indeed, true in answer to the question from Kris. smile.gif iPhoto is the default setting to download camera images, not that all of us do it that way.

So, we're really no closer to determining why IC reported anything since it is usually designed to watch for camera's and scanners. Why the message occurred when as it did is still a mystery to me, anyway.

1. Is your camera being recognized normally?
2. Can you still print normally?

If you can answer "Yes" to both 1 and 2, take a break and enjoy the Mac ease-of-use! smile.gif Don't worry about the message except for the excitement it created and the chance to add a thread to the TS archives.

If you answered "No" to either question, take an aspirin and call us in the morning! tease.gif
