When I first read this story Apple: If your iPhone is bricked because you used unauthorized software, you should buy a new one I thought it was terrible of Apple, but thinking about it, I think it's necessary.

If you bought the iPhone you had to know its limitations (slow Edge network and bad AT&T plan) and you agreed to the conditions. Also, Apple itself committed to 2 years with AT&T and they have to show their business partners that they're reliable.

It's rough stuff, though. Maybe the warning should have been more specific...

The bricks are not really bricks for long.

The contract with at&t is for 5 years

There's a good MacWorld podcast (find it on iTunes). They're very upset with Apple.
