"Locked-up" Directory
« on: October 16, 2007, 07:22:02 PM »
Situation:
  • I have placed my Documents Folder in the Dock, for quicker access
  • When I wish to look at an item (say, a folder) not in a Directory window, but have it open in Finder
Result: The item in question remains (so to speak) only in the Directory, and is not (cannot) be opened in Finder.

It seems to me that that is . . .
  1. new in 10.4.x,.x,x, or
  2. always a limit of OSX, or
  3. I haven't been paying attention to all the advantages/limitations to the new Directory
I hope this is understandable. If not, let me know I'll try to clarify.

However. if by some freak of chance you understand what I'm asking, is it possible to do what I wish – open a Folder resting (sort of) in an intermediate position in the chain of items displayed in Directory. If yes, what should I do to accomplish it.

Either I don't understand what you're asking, Dick, or your Mac is misbehaving. wink.gif

When I click and hold on my Documents folder in the Dock and then move my cursor to the desired folder and release the mouse button, the folder in question opens in the Finder.

Is this the behavior you're looking for?  huh.gif

A couple of IMacs, an iPad, a bunch of iPhones...two of which don’t live here, but I still pay for. Oh yeah, wife, daughters, and yes—a grandson!

Oh shucks. As Al says, "My BAD!"

Sure, I (double) click, but it really helps to Click (once) 'n Hold, doesn't?
