iTunes question

I have a song in iTunes which is playing back in mono, but it was originally recorded in stereo. I cannot find the original stereo recording. I dumped it into iTunes via a CD inserted into the computer. Is it possible to get it (iTunes) to playback the tune in stereo?

Somehow I doubt that a mono recording can be transformed to stereo.... unless it's an equipment problem.

My reasoning: That the track MAY have all the information on it including the stereo information, but that stereo information is surpressed to get a mono track out of it. Admittedly I may be wrong.

Unless iTunes somehow has a method of playing a particular song (and not others) as mono, I suspect that the method used to transfer the song simply did the 'compressing.' Or iTunes prefs, at the time you transferred the song, were set to save it as mono. I'm assuming you no longer have the original CD...
