Why does my one person's email bounce

My email address works fine, I think, though one person has remarked that when she sends me emails, they always bounce.  She uses a different ISP (Operamail).  I use freenetname (now Madasafish).

No one else has said that when they send me emails, they bounce, so what is going on?

How can I stop this bouncing.  She is a friend and her emails are important.  All filters are off, at the moment, to see if anything comes through but her's don't.

Any thoughts?  Anyone?

Send her an email and ask her to "Reply" to it. There must be that kind of function in her email program, even if it's a PC. She should not need/have to rewrite your address in the "Reply," it should be in there automatically.

If the "Reply" makes it to you, she simply has been miss-typing your address or it is in her address book incorrectly. Have her copy and paste in the one that is in your message (From:) or the one in the "Reply" (To:) into the erroneous entry in her address book.

If it does not make it to you (and how will you know?! Phone?), there is some problem at your ISP that is blocking her ISPs domain. Discuss that with your ISP.

Bouncing happens all the time with those free e-mail providers. They never get to the bottom of it to solve a problem, in my experience. I think you just have to live with it, or pay for e-mail.

I pay £20 per month for the privilege.  Is it my fault or her's?

I have had an issue with one of my school secretaries who gets mail bounced to/from her son who is employed in a different school district in a different state.  What I figured out was that she had tried typing his email address out (they're something
like name@twincities.k12.ks.us and so a little long) when she already had it in her address book.  The incorrect spelling had
also been placed into her frequent contacts list and this is the one that was picked up when she started typing the name and
not the correct one in the full address book.  These got bounced and I assume that it was something like that on his end because when we suggested he clear his frequent contacts out they started to go through!  These are large (corporate) database systems and we often get blamed because we filter spam but these never ended up in the filter file.

Operamail is a free domain - it's like using Yahoo or GMail. Not blacklisted though from what I can tell, so I'm not sure why YOUR ISP is blocking it - unless, as John and Jim have both suggested, she's gotten the wrong email address for you in her address book.

You could conduct an experiment - try having her email you from a free gmail account or a Yahoo account and see if that still bounces. But make sure she's actually using the correct address for you first!

Trouble is she is rather a sticky person so I although I have intimated that she might have it wrong, she would never admit it!

Just send her an email and ask her to hit "reply" rather than start a new email, and see if that bounces. Just say "I want to get to the bottom of this - can you try..." and then if that bounces, you'll at least have some idea that it's not her typo causing the problem. If that bounces, then you'll have to decide if she's open to creating a Yahoo or GMail account to see if that works. Tell her you think it may be your ISP but you need the EVIDENCE to show 'em. Also ask her to send the bounce message in its entirety to you...if she can manage that!

I know it can be tough sometimes dealing with others on technical matters - some people think they know it all and get huffy when there is any suggestion that perhaps they *really* don't, some are terrified of looking as witless as they really are, and some just get frustrated when anything technological doesn't perform exactly the way they think it should - no matter whether they actually understand it or not. And there are those who react to any request for a favor, no matter how small, like they're being asked to perform a monumental task! Good luck.

What?! Are you still complaining about the favor I owe you?! Just because I couldn't find the "any" key, you think you are so smart! If there wasn't that kind of key on the keyboard, why would so many people/manuals/instructions keep telling me to "hit" it?!!! "Hit it!" I wish! I may just throw the thing against the wall, if I could find some scissors sharp enough to cut this stupid 'security' cord that attaches the keyboard to the box...

I know this works MOST of the time, however I exchange e mails with a person in Alberta CA who uses "telus" as his isp.  telus has set up the e mails so that "From" address slightly different than the address required to "send to" address.

If you just attempt to "reply" you will get the "Addressee unknown" message.

Daryl, is that method used in your "web mail" process or in your email program? I don't think I would use an ISP that would attempt to change the addressee. Why would they even want to do that? I know Eudora doesn't 'mess' with the addressee's info in any way. Web mail is a whole nother 'animal', of course. You are not using a 'program' but a collection of scripts (PHP, perl, etc.) and you may have no idea what they might be doing with the info you enter (or should be entered).

Daryl, I've never heard of that issue with Telus - I live in Canada and have a friend who is a VP at Telus; his email certainly doesn't do that. Is it possible that your friend may have misconfigured his email account when setting it up in Outlook or whatever he uses, and put an incorrect address in? (as we've described - it can be done easily - unless you have Rogers who now have moved to prevent that!)

ABD  No I am using Entourage with a domain and as far as I know he uses a pc and Outlook (assumption). I have never tried it using Webmail.  I do not have a clue re Telus. When it first started happening about a year ago, after getting several returns I called him via the fone to tell him that Telus just did not like him and he should call them. He advised that they"telus" had set it up that way to avoid "spam".  He is about a 3 on the 10 scale for computer literacy, so who knows??

 Paddy:  See the above to ABD. My friend indicated that Telus  did it  intentionally and "advised" him of it. All I can say for sure is that you cannot "reply" to his e mails and get to him.
