My daughter (14) is away at school and wants an 14" iBook.  I have had a look at a few on Ebay and they seem very popular and hold their value well.  My partner bought one off Ebay last year and the price is still pretty much the same.

So, has anyone got an iBook for sale that they don't want?

I am keen for my daughter to have this but she is going to have to work for it through the summer holidays (doing jobs for which she will be paid).  My theory being, if she has to work for this, she might appreciate what it took to get it!

Any thoughts? .... or would we be better off buying her a slaptop!?

I bought a refurbished iBook 1Ghz for my sister in Dec. 04 and she is still using it with zero problems superstition.gif Sorry, it's not for sale but here's the results of a survey done in '06 which covers most of the iBook line. It will at least give you an idea of which models were the most prone to repair.

One thing to check on eBay sales is whether they show the a picture of the unit with the screen and OS running. That will give you a sense of whether there are any major video issues.

Hi Frances,

Check this link out: Apple Notebooks

I have found these folks to be very straightforward with good prices and good service. I have bought 2 used computers from them and they've been great.

I don't know if they will ship to the U.K., but if the price is right for you I'm sure one of us here can figure out a way to get it to you.

HTH,

Here's your answer on the international shipping, Chris. They suggest you get a friend to buy it for you - they don't ship anything under 20 items internationally. (Don't think Frances wants 20 iBooks! wink.gif )

They do have very good prices by the looks of things - about what one would pay on average on eBay, but without the hassle.

They really have been just that, Paddy, very straightforward. And, each computer comes with a 30 day guarantee as well.

One caveat is that they generally don't come with system discs from these folks, but a lot of iBooks on e-Bay don't either. But then again, one can find the occasional deal on eBay with a lot of good software preloaded from some Power Sellers.

If considering buying from Macofalltrades, I would contact them about the 14" iBooks they are selling though, before buying, as the description has them without a Firewire port, which I'm pretty sure isn't correct. As far as I know, all the 14" iBook 1.42 Ghz. G4's come with that standard.
