New discovery in Safari or..
« on: April 02, 2008, 11:35:15 AM »
whistling.gif   OK, I am used to creating new tabs while using Safari by the 'Command - T' key stroke method..

Today I 'accidentally' did a double-click on the tab bar and... lo and behold, a new empty tab presented itself.
Is this a 'new discovery' on my part, something that's been around for some time, or a new addition in Safari 3???

Inquiring minds would like to know..

Don't know, don't use Safari much. In FF, double-clicking a tab causes it to open in a new window. Not sure where one could click in the 'tab bar' as tabs expand/contract horizontally to fit the width of the window once you have a certain number created. There is an icon to click on that will create a new, empty tab.

I would assume you can also command-click a link to have it open in a new tab?

Later, yep, FF does the same thing. You just have to have fewer tabs open so you can actually have some empty space in the tab bar (about 4 and less in the window I usually use). Could be a quicker way to create a tab but if you're going to have to type in the url, you'll probably also already have your hands on the keyboard. Thinking.gif

I don't know either Bob, but if you've got a two-button mouse, a right click will bring up a contextual menu (just like an Option-click with a single button mouse). You can then pick New Tab, New Window, etc.
Ya gotta applaud those bunnies for sacrificing their hearing just so some guy in Cupertino can have better TV reception.

It might be new in Safari 3 but it also works in Camino.
Interesting... and thanks because I didn't knew this either.

ABD... Safari is the only browser I currently use.... don't ask why... just the way I am..  (Works, don't fix, etc...)  At one time I had a small program that put a 'new tab' button on Safari... but it left with some update and I didn't energetically pursue getting it back. toothgrin.gif

Gregg.... yep, have the 2-button variety of mouse.... and in the vein of reply to ABD... that finger gets very little to do on a regular basis also...  THANK YOU for the info.... will try to remember to flex that digit more often.

I think it's something relatively new, Bob. I was reading an article at MacWorld just last week (I think - life's a bit of a blur right now - too much to do!) and they mentioned that little feature as being quite useful.

It does? I can't get this (double-clicking) to work. WWHHAAAAA!

I can CONTROL - CLICK or RIGHT CLICK on the mouse to get a menu that allows NEW TAB, RELOAD, CLOSE, etc.; but double-clicking just gives my finger exercise. wink.gif

Yep, works in Camino. Though I have to do a single click twice because my double click button is set to enlarge the text.
I usually to a right click on the empty bar and a drop down allows me to choose New Tab, reload Tabs, Copypaste tools, etc.

Just noticed: In Exploder (for Windows, newest version?) there's a little 'blank' box to the right of open tabs. Click on it once, and an "empty" tab opens.

"double-click" opens the tab in a new window...
That may be something I set up in Tab Mix Plus. Whatever, I don't know that I've ever used that function. Maybe, like our my brains, we I only use about 10% of what any software can do! eek2.gif

Thank you for sharing this tip. ;-) New to me at least.
