What is the purpose of the "#" button??

I tried it and it gave me a shaded box with "CODE" in it, and the enclosed text below.
Ya gotta applaud those bunnies for sacrificing their hearing just so some guy in Cupertino can have better TV reception.

That 'enclosed text below' must be heavily en-code-d, cause it doesn't show up on my screen???? biggrin.gif

Sorry, I didn't make it clear. I edited my experiment in a different thread and then posted this.

Here's what it
CODE
looks like
Ya gotta applaud those bunnies for sacrificing their hearing just so some guy in Cupertino can have better TV reception.

Where on your keyboard is this '#' key located???

On mine it is just the 'shifted' '3' key...

Gregg means the # sign that shows up last in the line of icons at the top of the reply box. If you click on it, it produces {code}{/code}, only with square brackets - I did it with the curly ones so it would show up. And I'm not sure what you use it for, unless you're trying to show HTML code to discuss it. Because if you put raw code in here, it gets processed. Here...I'll try it:

CODE
<div class="floatright">
                    <h5><a name="grade8"></a>Grade 8's - have you submitted your comments for the Yearbook and your grad picture info?</h5>
                    <h5><strong>Deadline extended to May 14!</strong></h5>
                    <p>(both forms are now working!)</p>
                    <p><a href="yearbookmessage.php">Submit them</a> here!</p>
                    <p>(Password required)</p>
          </div>

Let's see if that works...

EDIT: BINGO - that's what it's for. Well, that's a useful tidbit I hadn't noticed before. biggrin.gif

Boy am I glad you explained that, Paddy. I thought maybe that's what it was for, but I've never seen a "#" on any of the skins I've used. Usually I see something like a scroll thing:

Gee, thanks for that Paddy. I have no idea what you're talking about. dntknw.gif

I guess I won't be using the "shift-3" button in my replies. wink.gif

It serves two purposes. One, as Paddy so adequately explained, is to prevent the TS forum software from trying to parse the text into some kind of stuff in a regular post. The second is to convert the text into a mono-spaced one and to allow spaces to remain in the text. Both of those actions help display the code (of whatever language one might use) to be more easily read by a human. salute.gif And that covers the majority of TS members. tongue.gif
