I don't know. I don't want Google to handle my health records. It just creeps me out. I don't know why.

Years ago, my employer wanted to save admin costs on health insurance. They decided to have the EOBs sent to the office and placed in our mailboxes by our #1 executive assistant. Some objected, so we were allowed to "opt out" and have EOBs sent to our home by mail. ....Only later did I learn that the insurance company provided envelopes with their logo to said ExAss, who mailed them herself.
Ya gotta applaud those bunnies for sacrificing their hearing just so some guy in Cupertino can have better TV reception.

I am not sure exactly what is being proposed here, but today there is HIPPA. Without your personal authorization your medical info cannot even be released to your family.

There is or maybe by now (info is some years old  and no hits in Wakipedia)) was a little known subscriber organization called MIB (medical insurance bureau) which had access to ALL of your medical info and this is/was how insurance companies could determine your health status and decided what, if any, insurance coverage they would provide.

Oh gads, Gregg. That is just soooo wrong.

Daryl, I'm aware of HIPPA; but I still think having Google "store" my health records (probably until the earth is dust) is just creepy and not something I want to see happen. Computers can be hacked too easily to suit me. Info can be released too easily as well. I'm just not comfortable with it. Never will be.

Daryl, if you read the article closely, you will see that Google claims HIPPA does not apply to them as defined by HIPPA. When HIPPA was created and passed into law, no one even thought about something like Google having possession of health data. They may have enough lawyers to make their contention stick.

Many people don't seem to mind having Google know an awful lot about them, why else would Gmail be such a hit with some? dntknw.gif Some people will trade almost any personal info for money or a 'free' service, it appears. And Google may be full of honest, incorruptible people and their storage may be more secure than anything else on the globe. I don't think we'll ever know until some ones data is leaked/stolen and the bad consequences affect those people. Much more info could be 'used' without anyone ever knowing about it, of course. But then, I'm just a little paranoid and cynical...

Our mug meeting last night was about security of our computers, email, surfing, etc. There were countless questions and solutions offered. But many had no problem giving Google free access for a lot of personal information without any qualms whatsoever. dntknw.gif wallbash.gif nono.gif

Unfortunately this sharing of personal info will come back to haunt them in the years to come. dry.gif
