Solid State Drives (SSD) II
« on: May 30, 2008, 11:25:26 PM »
The enclosed URLSSD describes potential SSDs by end of year. It also describes issues such as cost (>10$/GB) and fragility of memory cells ala flash drives. Basically, these drives are a few years away for laptops and desktops because of cost. The point is, however, several drive makers are competing and that is the magic word.

You can already get a MacBook Air with the drive. On a recent Macworld podcast they didn't think these drives would be so mainstream because 1) they're mostly for businesses, and 2) flash drives are faster and lighter and dependable enough.
