A summary....

QUOTE
The Instinct has several advantages over the new iPhone:

- It's smaller, fitting more comfortably in a pocket.

- It records video. The iPhone only does stills.

- It does picture messaging.

- It has "haptic feedback," fancy words meaning it can be set to vibrate when it registers a touch.

- Its navigation software gives turn-by-turn directions.

- It can get live, streaming TV service.

- It has a removable battery, and even comes with a spare. The iPhone's battery is not removable by the user.

- Its applications can be updated over the wireless data network.

- It can send music to stereo headsets using Bluetooth. The iPhone can send calls over Bluetooth, but not music.

The Instinct has some notable drawbacks as well:

- The screen has two-thirds as many pixels as the iPhone, which means it displays less information. Worse, it's limited in the number of colors it can display, which spoils the look of some photos and movies.

- The Instinct can only sense the touch of one finger at a time, which makes it more cumbersome to use. The iPhone will let you zoom into a Web page or picture by spreading your fingers on the screen.

- Sprint's network is not in very good shape, and I have noticed some problems with call quality.

- There's very limited international roaming, mainly in South America. Sprint's network isn't compatible with the dominant network standard overseas, while AT&T's is. That means the iPhone can roam in more than 170 countries.

- Sprint has said the Instinct will be open to third-party software developers, and its software is based on Java, a ubiquitous programming language that should make it easy to adapt existing applications. But the cachet and user base of the iPhone will attract more developers to that platform, which Apple is only now opening up.
Ya gotta applaud those bunnies for sacrificing their hearing just so some guy in Cupertino can have better TV reception.

I'd suggest that is it more of an attempt to copy the iPhone than a clone of it. smile.gif And despite the reference to Java, I'm assuming it still uses Windows Mobile. getsick.gif

I suspect these guys are cloning the iphone as well. I mean they do have a touch screen.

The iphone was nothing more than a cell phone added to a music box with pictures. They didn't invent the touch screen, or most of the technology that it contained. (they improved on some of it) Their antenna is wanting compared to Sumsung which to a person who has used cell phones since the 80's (MCI government issue) comes to place a great value in. All the music and photos in the world with a bad antenna won't call a cab in downtown Phoenix at 2 am.

Sprint did have the best network at one time PCS, and still is on the cutting edge of 4G technology, and offers P2P walkie-talkie service through the nextel network, but since their plans are $30 more per month than T-mo's I have not returned to their service. At&T has merge with technology, it has created very little, where T-Mo and Sprint win prizes for their cutting edge innovations. If the dude in the article had a problem with the PCS network he would most likely have a problem with them all except the one that's paying the bills. wink.gif He did make one good point though and that is international service, they are not as connected but they are able to function anyway. wink.gif

AFAIK, the iPhone is the only one with an OS that knows how to use touch screens as much as it does. Others seem to use it only for starting a process or clicking an "OK" or "Select" function. And certainly not to operate MS apps. AFAIK Windows does not yet know how to handle multi-finger/gesture touch screens. dntknw.gif

Yup, and if a photocopy or knockoff is not like a clone I don't know what is.  smile.gif

Follow me here: I used "iPhone clone" as the link and then used ": clone :" as the smiley.

Jim said, it's more like a copy than a clone.

I said, there's no photocopy or knockoff smiley; as in none that you use either of those two words between the colons.

It's just that simple, really.

No problem here, didn't mean to start a 'disagreement.' Here are wmat each of those three words mean to me:
Photocopy = an image of an item, not the actual item nor even a working mechanical item. Simply an image of the outside of said item.
Knockoff = an unauthorized reproduction/copy/imitation of an object, usually of lower quality and lacking the unique features of the original.
Clone = an object/animal that is an exact/identical copy of the original down to the molecular/DNA level.
Three different words. Three (or more) different ideas. Just trying (some say very! eek2.gif ) to express my thoughts as well as possible for a 65 year old has been! wink.gif

Oh, so it's those words and colons that make the difference? Got it.
(Jim's definitions aside of course....  wink.gif )

Try them now.   whistling.gif
