For those of us with many many versions of PSE or PS
« on: October 22, 2008, 09:09:47 AM »
On my work Mac, Ive too many versions of PSE and PS in the dock, and when I click on a picture to open it, it might not open in the particular version that I want at that time.
So just take the picture and drag it(them) onto the version sitting in your dock, and it will open in the one you picked there.
Makes it easy.

Er, Jane...just how many versions do you have? Enquiring minds want to know! wink.gif

The only reason I can think of to have more than the latest version of PS would be if there are plug-ins that only work on older versions...unlike something like Microsoft and Office 2007 and its inability to use macros, Adobe isn't usually in the habit of removing features. tongue.gif

Ive got 3 on my working Mac, just took one out. And 2 on this one, I took some out last year, but some of the old plug ins I need, or at least I think I need.
I know Ive got to get rid of some stuff I dont use someday.  There is a lot of stuff on this Mac that I think I need then I realize that Ive not used a particular software for over a year.
But even the 3 on my work Mac, its nice to instantaneously decide which to use, by just dragging the picture to the one I choose.

Actually, I shouldn't say that Adobe doesn't usually remove features - they took a few things away with CS4, though apparently you can get them back via downloaded plugins:

You could also make aliases of the originals, change the name (Old PSE, Older PSE, Even Older PSE, etc.) and even the image to suit (PSE/PS would be great for that!) and put the alias in the Dock.

I still keep my Dock as out of sight as possible (not as easy since we can no longer put it at the top...). But I'm not aware of anything in the latter versions of PSE that were dropped from earlier versions. I'm somewhat surprised that there have been no conflicts between so many versions (some running at the same time?!). Too much for my simple mind to keep up with, I just use one at a time and clean out the redundant code/resources for the new stuff. Apple makes 'archiving too simply to leave stuff 'laying about!' Not that I don't have a few hundred thousand wasted bytes on the HD... blush-anim-cl.gif

Thank you all!
Many ideas to solve this, Ive got it down to 3 on that Mac and they dont conflict.
Its time that I did go thru both and get rid of the stuff that I dont use any more, I can put them over on my ext HD and just leave them there.
