I have a lab full of iMAC G5's that were upgraded to OS 10.5 and have had Adobe Creative Suite 3 installed on them. They have individual limited users set up for each hour of class and on some of them we have black boxes showing up around icons and open windows. This is something that has happened on the individual users (never all of them) and usually is accompanied by duplicated menu listings under the Apple menu. I can get rid of it by deleting that user and recreating it but I've yet to be able to get rid of this otherwise. Has anyone else ever seen this or have any ideas?

Never heard of this one, John - and did a search on Adobe forums and in Google and didn't find anything. If you recreate the user, does the problem come back, or does it stay gone for good?

If you recreate the user the problem doesn't follow. Not a big problem but deleting and recreating the user isn't very elegant! Our help desk lady also talked to someone at Adobe and they don't claim the problem! I just figured it was something done by accident within the limited functions of the "limited" account!

That's a common question that gets asked over on MFIF about once a month or so.

What you're seeing is VoiceOver, a system intended to help disabled people use a Mac. You turn it on by pressing Command-F5. You turn it off the same way.

I feel chastened that I didn't think of that. I used to have some "real" problems with this sort of thing in pre-OSX times and with Windows 98. Haven't even thought about this for awhile. Thanks Tacit!

BTW - I turned it on, but didn't see any black boxes. (?) Works very well in Photoshop though - I'm really surprised nobody noticed the voice, John!! (or maybe the volume was turned down?) OMG - it reads as I'm typing this...

(thinks rolleyes is "rallies" and keeps trying to tell me I'm misspelling it) OK...think we'll turn this off again.

Try option-command-8. It's a built-in method (3 really) of enlarging the image on the screen.

My voiceOver started up with the command-F5, also. Not sure why that would start when nothing else seemed to be affected. Maybe there are just those two things that start with that key choice. Somebody want to read the stinkin' manual?!
