Any clues about what "ex ped" means?

I have five years of formal Latin education, and it does not ring any bells for me, nor does it appear on any of the dozen or so websites I checked that feature Latin abbreviations.

I wondered about that also.  At the time I was reading blogs by this guy:

Philip Elmer-DeWitt

So I figured it might have reference to his name.  But I've also seen it elsewhere so my theory was ruined.  sad.gif


As one word it is an accepted abbreviation for expedite or expedition but I really don't see how either relates to blogs. Thinking.gif

I'm almost sure it can't be this:

Ped
Ped\, n. [OE. See Peddler.] A basket; a hammer; a pannier. [Obs.]

pan⋅nier    [pan-yer, -ee-er]   –noun
1.   a basket, esp. a large one, for carrying goods, provisions, etc.
2.   a basket for carrying on a person's back, or one of a pair to be slung across the back of a beast of burden.
3.   a similar type of bag, usually one of a pair, fastened over a bicycle's rear wheel.
4.   (on a dress, skirt, etc.) a puffed arrangement of drapery at the hips.
5.   an oval framework formerly used for distending the skirt of a woman's dress at the hips.
Also, panier.

I tried a few searches using the "ex" and came up empty.

kbeartx - I googled the term in Google Groups and found hits that talked about something pretty unsavory (won't talk about it here) so you might want to try that and see what it is and see if it might apply in the context you are seeing it in.

Um - unless you mean the "ped" part of the expression (pedophile) which has absolutely NO bearing on the blog post responses where, like Kbear, I've seen it and have no idea what it means, I don't know what you saw, John! tongue.gif (There were all of two references when I searched)

So it seems I was right in my first thought. However I did find it also used at a MacRumors forum so I did a followup question to DeWitt. Answer yet to come....
