Avery Design Pro question

Anyone use the Design Pro software supplied by Avery? It works well printing but i can't figure out the interface.
Specificall, how does one enter text in the text field? i am doing return labels.
The text box says, place your text here. "Place" seems an odd word. I cannot type in that box. What i have been doing is making up the text in photoshop, saving to jpg and inserting it as an image. But now im doing something where i have to be more exact. i need the type a certain size and i have to be able to use this app. i cant find help or instructions (what else is new).

Have had exactly the same problem myself.  

My "solution" is to create text portion in the "Textedit" app that comes with Apple.  Cut & Paste...

Works for me... YMMV..

Not 'smooth as glass'... but a solution.  I've not made any great use of the app as yet so maybe there is a 'better' way but haven't run on to it as yet..

Argh! the type is all blurry. ive tried photo quality, photo quality best and regular.
Using an Epson. and the labels are see-through, peel off.  I smell $15 down the drain.

Do you have Microsoft Office? You can make labels with that - they have all the Avery label sizes built into the software. It's under Tools->Labels. You can select a sheet of labels all the same (return address labels for instance) or different and pulled from a list using data merge, or hand-entered. I use it for my Christmas cards every year. Works like a charm. Do print a test page out on ordinary paper and hold it up to a window/bright light over the label page to make sure that everything lines up ok - sometimes I need to tweak things a bit.

Appleworks 6 has it too - put "labels" into the Help menu and it walks you through it all. smile.gif

Thinking.gif Not sure what / why you are using to print to... but I'd check the labels to be sure they 'match' the type of printer you're going to. i.e. not using laser labels on inkjet printer or vice versa..

I have just used plain old "print" and mine have turned out very acceptable.

I think those are probably made of a type of plastic. Most plastics are not good at holding soluble (ink-jet) inks. There is probably some text on the box somewhere suggesting that they be used in a laser printer. My wife uses those kinds of labels, run through the laser with great results.

A big plus with using Word (and I haven't said that before, ever!) is that there is usually a (downloadable) template already formatted for Word that you can then use, no spacing 'tricks.' I'm sure that even AW has several of the common Avery label sizes  already available in the 'Layout' section of the database module. Of course, using either Word (shudder) or a database, you can have 30 duplicate records for your own address as a separate, conveniently labeled file. Where things really get easy is by using either of those two options, you can have a file full of any group of addresses you might want, whenever you might need them, with absolutely no 'cut & paste!' smile.gif It's very easy with most any database, just enter all your addresses, "Find" just the ones you want to print and do it. I'm not sure how you'd have to set up Word, you might have to set up separate text files for any group you might want...but then its merge function will take care of creating the page(s) for printing.

Missed the bit about the see-through labels. However, Avery make both inkjet AND laser clear labels - it should be indicated on the package.

No template downloads necessary in Word - they've got just about every Avery label in there as far as I can tell!

I'm at work now and can't check bu ti would bet i got laser lables.
Who wants em! Sent anywhere in US gratis!

I think Office will be a stocking stuffer for my wife since she could sue it for work.
