Amazing Flash Presentation
« on: January 29, 2009, 08:35:40 PM »
Click on this link and a playing card will appear on your screen...wait a few moments for it to load, then look down below the card and you will see a line that has a little red slider bar in it.  Move the slider gradually to the right (about 1") and stop and watch the show take place, then move it a little more to the right and stop and the show will continue, and keep doing this till you are to the end. You've never seen anything like this.
Cheers, Tom

Tom,Absolutely brilliant! I am amazed st the creativity that went into this. Thanks,MamaMooseTom how can I copy this Flash program onto my computer? Is it possible to have a self-standing program without the design program?MamaMoose

You already have a Flash player, even if it's just a plug-in for your browser. The file you need is simply the Flash file being served. Probably found on your drive somewhere after the download is complete and before you close the window. The reason for moving the slider only a little at a time is because the file is extremely large. I suspect that if you simply wait until the download is complete, i will either automatically start playing or you can move the slider all the way to the right and watch the whole thing in one grand 'movie.' You may also note that there is a very faint 'red' marker that shows exactly where you are in the movie. It certainly shows a lot of work, in any case. smile.gif Although being built, paid for and supported by the maker of Flash no doubt helped in the process. You might send a request to Adobe asking for the file but don't be disappointed if they don't even answer...After all, the whole thing is an ad for Flash. smile.gif

I can't find the actual flash file in all the code - there is a ton of javascript (found at http://www.adobecards.com/AC_RunActiveContent.js ) - it's somewhere in there. I think. blink.gif

Kriss, I clicked on your graphic but it seemed to be stuck in the 'load' mode. The fans went to full speed, Safari crashed, and I had to pull the power cord to shut down the Mac!!! eek2.gif You really should test these kinds of links before posting them here!!! nono.gif rant.gif tease.gif

Jim, further to your original post about how that Flash animation works - nothing happens UNLESS you move the slider. It doesn't play automatically; that's part of the whole concept "Creative license. Take as much as you want." You can also move it backwards, but unfortunately it doesn't cause the cards to fly backwards. tongue.gif That would have been really cool, but I can't imagine how complicated that would be! (don't even know if it's possible in Flash)

At this point, it's all I can do to afford their software! tongue.gif

I dunno - it might be a good time to buy, considering it's close to its lowest point in the last 5 years...

True, I had just assumed ( wallbash.gif ) that Flash included that kind of variable in the downloaded file as does QuickTime or many other 'media players.' While you must move the 'slider' to get any movement, you can always wait until the loading is complete and move it all the way to the end for the whole 'show.' You would probably do better buying their stock than attempting to create such a project with their software. Remember, these people not only are experts in how to use Flash, they built the darned thing and probably also used all the 'undocumented' tricks that very few others even know! It is "fashy" but I still haven't seen it used successfully to do anything really useful by even competent users. OTOH, there is an over abundance of electron wasting garbage being exhibited, IMHO. smile.gif I wonder if anyone has the time or inclination to compare the file size of that file and it's image quality with a competently executed CGG from somewhere else. Of course, it is probably easier to get the file displayed so nicely on a computer as the Flash version. And, in the end, that's all some people care about. dntknw.gif

I have some clients like that...they want their web site updated to be "more dynamic" - which to them, means things that move. How to explain to them nicely that just because it moves, doesn't mean it's either truly dynamic or good? And in fact could be very, very bad. That those slide shows that play automatically are actually REALLY annoying beyond visit #1? wallbash.gif

My favorite sites are those that start with a page that basically asks if you would like to see the rest of the site. doh.gif Especially that have graphic displays, often Flash videos that must have taken hours to create or several hundred dollars to acquire and yet do absolutely nothing to even explain what the site might be about!!! rant.gif

Do these people think I got there by mistake? Or maybe I'm getting paid per mouse click? "HellO?" wallbash.gif Thankfully, these things seem to be fading away...
