To be Discontinued!
« on: February 03, 2009, 10:54:33 AM »
While I'm sure that this isn't the last word it seems like there are at least 6 car models that will be falling by the wayside:

1) Honda S2000
2) Chrysler PT Cruiser
3) Saturn Sky
4) Hummer H3
5) Lexus SC
6) Dodge Viper

I'm pretty sure I've never even seen a Honda S2000, the Hummers in general aren't anything I'm interested in seeing on
the road, and the Viper would only get me in trouble; but I like the size of the PT Cruiser!  Maybe they can rework it as an
electric or a hybrid?  Don't have any opinion on the other two.  This is from an article at Yahoo:

Any other thoughts?

We are on our 2nd PT Cruiser, an '06' Turbo... And Love the little thing greatly....
Very comfortable to drive and ride in, with plenty of back seat room for even our 6ft plus sons.
And being able to fold down or remove the rear seats all together made for great hauling capacity.

I knew they were discontinuing the convertible model (no great loss there) but hadn't heard the the whole line was going.

Can't say I'll miss any of them - particularly the Hummer, which I always thought was an absolute abomination unless you were in the military with genuine off-road needs and I'm sure they'll still be making the Humvees for the US army. I do have friends with a PT Cruiser who like it very much.

As impractical as convertibles are, the Saturn Sky is really sharp looking. Oh, well.

The Hummers are all ridiculously large for use as on road vehicles (unless you're in Iraq).  I shake my head every time I pass a house down the road from me.  The modest house that was on a few acres of land was 'upgraded' last year by additions that made it about 4 times larger. The people who apparently bought the place and did the building now park two Hummers and a snazzy sports car (don't know what make it is) out front. When ever I go by there I think that it is a perfect example of why our economy is where it is now.

Here's another link from that Yahoo site on the worst "best" cars of the year. Funny.

By the late ’80s, the sight of rusted Alliances abandoned alongside America’s roads was so common that their resale value had dropped to nearly zero.

Loved that link about test drivers Krissel!  I thought I was probably strange with my test sitting procedure:

1) I sat in the drivers seat and adjusted it to my comfort.

2) I then did the same in the front passenger seat.

3) If I couldn't sit behind those seats comfortably when they were adjusted like that then I wasn't interested in even
hearing the engine run.

As I was limiting myself to 4 door cars with good fuel economy this was a good first test but I'm sure the salesmen
weren't that fond of it!  wink.gif

OFF TOPIC (and just my opinion, anyway):

I think that might be a better indication of why the economy is in the tank than the size of the house you mentioned. Unless that 'family' used the same 'logic' as that car buyer... rolleyes.gif
