Migration Assistant Left Some Things Behind...

A friend of mine recently purchased a new 2.0GHz MacBook. After transferring data from his G4 iBook he discovered that the transfer did not bring over his iTunes nor anything on his iPhone. If he attempts to sync it threatens to replace everything on his iPhone with whatever is on the new computer including the calendar, jpegs and iTunes, which of course has no music...

I haven't physically worked on a MacBook that lacks Firewire so I am a little in the dark on these matters... Any suggestions/links for my friend and I will be Mucho Appreciated.

First of all, tell him to open iTunes and disable automatic syncing with the iPhone. Just like he should with any iPod. It's right there on the "Summary" tab. And he should also enable "Manually manage music and videos" on the same tab. Those two things will take care of iTunes attempts to sync stuff automagically. I suppose most people allow iTunes to do that kind of thing with their iPods/iPhones but I certainly never have. "I'll tell you what to do, not the other way around. Thank you very much!"

He should now be able to use iTunes to backup his iPhone.

I have never used it but have heard of others using Senuti (iTunes spelled backwards ) to transfer stuff OFF their iPods onto their HDs. Not sure if it works for an iPhone but there are apps that are supposed to do the same thing for them.
