Another Apple cloner appears

This one's German, selling "PearC" machines.

Not exactly pretty, are they?

https://www.pearc.de/

Will be interesting to see how Apple responds to this; laws are somewhat different in Europe and tend to favor the consumer over business.

There's a list of the <different Pear models> here.
THERE ARE TWO TYPES OF COUNTRIES
Those that use metric = #1 Measurement system
And the United States = The Banana system

When you check the options on those models, they include a Blu-Ray burner.
Now they might believe that it's ok to sell OsX pre-packed just because European law "favors" consumers over businesses, but I don't see how they are going to be able to get this Blu-Ray working on a Mac-OsX based system? :thinks:

Ah yes, the old "we put in there, but we didn't actually say it would work" ploy! Gotta use Windows for that, I suppose. rolleyes.gif

Probably, that's what I assume also.

But how about getting one of those, than claiming they said they have it on their requirement pages and sue them over it.
You think European law will favour them or the consumer?

LaCie and other firms have Blu-Ray Burners that will work under 10.5 so I don't know why someone couldn't bundle something like that!

Er, yes, you can buy Blu-Ray burners that do work in Macs - but playback of commercial disks is still not supported under the OS. And there is the little SATA/IDE issue as well. Read this for what you can and cannot do at the moment:
