Need Help - want startup disk with DiskWarrior on
« on: May 29, 2003, 04:03:50 PM »
I have a G4 iMac with disk burner, and have made a disk containing OS9 and DiskWarrior, but it will not show up in the startup disk control panel.
Someone the other day mentioned going to another web page to get instructions, but I can't find that post.
I would really like to have TechToolPro on that start up disk too.
Who will help this old man?
Thanks

If you go to MacFixit's forums, you can address the query directly to the MicroMat tech rep who monitors those forums & he will most probably post the instructions or give you the link you can use to get them.
He is quite generous with his help.
I had the instructions at one time, from MicroMat, but don't have them now.

David, Perhaps this will help (from OSX FAQ)

1. If necessary, update TechTool Pro 3 that is installed on your hard drive to the latest version of the program. You must have launched the program at least once to enter the serial number. Updates are available from the Downloads section on the MicroMat website.

2. Create an empty folder named whatever you wish on your desktop. You might want to name it "TechTool Pro 3.x.x" for ease of recognition.

3. Using a Mac OS installation CD that you know will boot the computer, drag the System Folder from the CD and drop it into the new folder on the desktop.

4. Find your TechTool Pro 3 folder and drag it into the new folder as well. There should now be two folders in the new folder on the desktop: System Folder and TechTool Pro 3. NOTE: The TechTool Pro 3 folder must be named exactly "TechTool Pro 3".

5.Inside your System Folder in your hard drive you will find the Preferences folder. Inside that folder is the TechTool Pro Prefs folder. Drag this folder, "TechTool Pro Prefs", into the TechTool Pro 3 folder located inside the new folder on your desktop. NOTE: This folder must also be named exactly "TechTool Pro Prefs".

6. What you should now have in the new folder on your desktop is:
     A. System Folder.
     B. TechTool Pro 3 folder with the "TechTool Pro Prefs" folder inside.

As long as you have all these pieces in the new folder exactly as described above, you should be able to create a bootable CD containing the contents of this folder using your third party CD burning application. Keep in mind that Apple's free Disk Burner software cannot create a bootable CD.

Please refer to your CD burning application manuals for instructions on how to create the bootable CD if necessary.

NOTE: MicroMat will not be able to provide technical assistance beyond this point. If you have problems creating a bootable CD you will need to contact the makers of your CD burning software.

I imagine, but do not know, that the procedure for including DiskWarrior is similar to the above.

HTH

Daffy & Harv
Thanks for your suggestions.
Harv has put his finger on the problem, the only disk burner software I have, is Apple's.
End of story.  I will have to wait for new versions of my favorite repair programs, as I only have TTP 2x and DiskWarrior 2x.

TTP which I have installed, will do a little but not much, and DW of course won't do anything.
Oh well, I may go back to my Beige DT G3 which works like a charm.
