There are several freeware and shareware applications rthat allow you to cool down your Mac by altering the threshold for fan speed.
I use "Fan Control"

Fan Control... Do you think your MacBook or MacBook Pro is running too hot? Then give Fan Control a try. Some MacBooks (Pro) are just to hot for daylong use. Fan Control adjusts the minimum fan speed depending on the current CPU temperature. For safety, it leaves the original automatic fan speed control intact.
As I type this on my old MacBookPro the ambient temp is 100.1 degrees F.
The fan's base speed is set at 3,500 r.p.m.
My M B P is on my lap and my legs are nekkid !
