First, you will probably have to Log out or even Restart to get the OS to recognize the plug-in.
Second, I don't use/have Photoshop, but in PS Elements, one selects the TWAIN plug-in or other source in the File->Import menu. My choices are : Anti-aliased PICT..., PICT Resource..., Brother TWAIN..., From from Video... And there is a TWAIN plug-in in the Elements/Plug-Ins/Import Modules folder.
I use a Brother MF machine with PS Elements. I have two TWAIN files on the HD. One created by Adobe. 10.0x001 ©1992-2007! It is located as mentioned above. However, the one I think is really being used is from Brother: /Library/Image Capture/TWAIN Data Sources/Brother TWAIN.ds Version 3.1.0. Furthermore, both are "Universal" meaning that they should run, natively, in both a PPC and an intel Mac (I think!).
Frankly, I've never actually used Elements to scan! Thanks for bringing this basic capability to my attention! For text documents/OCR I use ReadIRIS, only because it works better than nothing.
But it usually crashes after more than one scan in a row!
Have you tried searching (Spotlight or any good Finder replacement app) for "TWAIN"?
