Postbox: New Email Client Software
« on: September 09, 2009, 05:35:15 PM »
Postbox 1.0.0 is now available for downloading.

I have been waiting (and waiting...) for MailForge (the "Eudora replacement") to be Ready For Prime Time, but it still has enough bugs that I haven't seen fit to press it into service yet.

I haven't played with Postbox much, but importing Apple Mail settings was easy and quick and my initial impression is that I like the user interface better than Mail and MailForge. The Eudora UI is sure looking dated after all these years. Heck, it was dated when it was still in active development!

Postbox's primary claim to fame is its organizational and search capabilities. And being a Mozilla-based program it can utilize plugins created by independent developers. (Postbox is apparently based on the Thunderbird engine.)

If you decide to purchase Postbox it will set you back $40; I guess that is the going price these days for third-party email software.

Here is a review of Postbox. Keep in mind that it was posted earlier this year while Postbox was very much a beta program...

The Apple Blog first look. It was published in January 2009 but it provides a nice overview of Postbox.

Here is a folowup article on The Apple Blog from February 2009.

I like the search features. Much of the program reminds me of Entourage. The price is reasonable too.

I've been playing with this option Add-on http://www.softhing.com/eeax.html and it has great potential.

sandbox,

I need to archive a good part of my Eudora e-mail data base aqnd send the archived e-mails to a volume different than my boot volume. Right now my e-mil DB goes back to 2002! What I want to do is archive each of my mailboxes covering 1/1/00 to 12/31/07. If I convert Eudora 2.6.4 to Postbox, will it be possible to use eeax to perform archiving functions?

Or is there an archive system that will deal directly with Eudora mail?

Thanks,

MamaMoose

Hey Tom,

It's been sometime since I've worked with Eudora so I'll just tell you what i did to achieve my Entourage Email. before EEAX

I imported the database to an Identity in Apple mail, it seperated the block data base into the right folders and I just dragged it to a scatch drive that I use for storage.

On to EEAX and it's ability. I can use it on each folder or on the whole Entourage data base if i choose and i believe it works the same way with Eudora but then again I don't have the evidence to prove it. wink.gif

The download is free for testing so it won't cost you anything to play with it. I think you'll like it, it easy and effective.
