Titanium internal drive choice

For  replacing a  powerbook Titanium 550  drive ,any  2,5  is ok or should i look for a special one ?

A favorite one ...a manufacturer to avoid..?

Most say the standard size is OK but some places recommend the slimline 9.5mm height.

You do need an ATA/PATA or IDE (not SATA) drive.

Hitachi and Western Digital are often referred to as good quality.

Virtual1, a highly respected poster at FineTunedMac and a professional, has often reported quality control problems with Seagate drives. Based on his experience, I would avoid them. FWIW, I have bought and used six Hitachi drives for my Powermac G4 and Mac Pro; all have been flawless.

I used to really like Seagate drives - for a while there, they were the only ones with 5 year warranties. But, as Jon says, some models have been having some serious reliability issues lately, so my allegiance now goes to Hitachi and Western Digital. A good source of reviews (and drives - their prices are usually among the best) is http://www.newegg.com - I always check there before buying, even if I end up buying elsewhere - which for me is usually my local Canada Computers store, which is often just as cheap, with a further discount for cash.
