single boot?

Another question for you guys.  While I mainly work in os9.2 After a crash the other day, when i boot again i get the flashing question mark on the disk and then a happy mac, and thats it.  My recovery cd wont boot, but i can still press "x" when restarting and it boots in osx just fine.  From osx, i can launch the "classic", but cannot get it to boot from it.  I've tried to see if it knows which system disk to use, but cant tell(theres is a folder with a "9" picture on it when browsing the drive".  When i boot from the startup disk, it wont let me set the syste, disk, it just wants to reinstall osx. (which i have done) Please help, I dont know what else to do.

Can't give you a difinitive answer, but standard proceedure at this point is to reset the NVRAM by zapping the PRAM for about 4-5 chimes. If that doesn't work, OS 9 may be hosed. You may need to do a clean install of OS 9.x.x at this point.

First thing is to Repair Permissions.

You very well might have to reinstall OS 9.x.x

Hi Dezz.

I don't know your situation. That is if you're a student or Pro or what.

But you're for sure going to have to learn more about macs.

A good begenning book is David Pogue's Mac OS X:The Missing Manual.

Maybe the school will buy it. I don't know.

Once you get through that you may want more advanced books.

You may have already reinstalled 9 by now, but...

If you haven't done anything yet, boot into X, open up System prefs and startup disk and see if the system 9 folder is even recognized by X. If so, try choosing it from there and rebooting. You could also hold down the option key at startup to see if you get the choice of systems from which to boot.  If none of these show the 9 system or let you boot, then most likely a reinstall of 9 is needed.

Hi Krissel   Because I am very VERY new to macs........   Im  gonna need a little more help doing what you just said.  When I look into the HD  I do see a folder that says "system" on it with a faint "9" picture on it.  Im not sure if this is what you mean.  Doing the rest though............  I will need your help on how to.  Sorry.,   but all your help is Very VERY VERY appreciated.
