Replacements up and running
« on: March 18, 2010, 12:30:28 AM »
Replaced the stolen 12"pb and Ipod Touch  with 13"MBP (refurb) and Ipod Touch  with like model refurb.  Both up and running with latest versions of software.  The only issue (so far) was my external BU was Firewire 400 and the new MBP is 800. (ordered a converter from Sonnet), Had to use  an ethernet cable from the spare PB to the MBP to transfer everything. ( Ya just cannot have TOO many bu's).  Keeping fingers crossed that Murphy does not make a surprise visit. Groaner.gif

If you already have a 400 and an 800 FW cable, all you need to do is cut them in half and use some duct tape. I'd recommend tying the cut ends together before covering with the tape, that will help protect separation should they get pulled at both ends at once. Well all I have is that old "grey" ugly duct tape and no  eek2.gif 800 cable.  The Sonnet box should solve all the issues, (at least the ones I have identified so far) and the price was only 24 bucks shipped. thumbup.gif   Now I just have to adjust to all of the nuances of "snow" and see if I can transfer that bit of knowledge to "Momma".  speech.gif  She will be traveling with the MBP now. (sure is a neat little guy and I love the lighted kbd) Tickled.gif

Daryl, I guess you didn't see this? http://www.amazon.com/Sonnet-FireWire-400-...4/dp/B0000CDJPQ

Or this?

http://www.amazon.com/Firewire-800-9-6-Ada...d_bxgy_e_text_c

or this?

http://eshop.macsales.com/item/Other+World...ting/FIR1369AD/

(Not trying to make you feel bad, but just in case anyone else needs one...$24 shipped is a tad expensive - OWC's shipping via USPS to MA for example is only $1.95, so $11.90 total.)

Guilty on all 3 accounts.  Have to admit I did NO shopping.  I just jumped on the first one I found. 9.95 of it was for shipping 3 day fedex. It looks like Sonnet makes all of them   Ohh well what can I say.  With that 12 bucks I could have sprung for a cuppa for both of us  at most any Starbucks in most airports. verysad.gif
