Tri-State area gets a beating from Mother Nature!!

So as many of you are probably aware, the tri-state area (Connecticut, New Jersey, and New York) got its butt kicked by Mother Nature this past weekend. Here on Long Island, we had wind gusts up to 75 MPH (only gusts up to 45 were predicted) with drilling rain, knocking down thousands of trees and utility poles. As a matter of fact, my house was one of the many that lost power because our 50 foot, 60 year old pine tree took out the telephone pole and established new domain in the middle of our culdesac. (pictures to follow later).

Because of all of the devastation, our power authority contracted work from all of the country. I've actually compiled a list of all of the states that trucks came from and it's interesting to see how far some of these trucks had to drive to get to Long Island!!

Massachusetts

Pennsylvania

Rhode Island

Missouri
Ontario, Canada

Mississippi (diverted because of non-union workers)

How did the other northeasterners handle the storm?

I hear ya.  Fortunately I didn't lose any of my trees, even the 60-70' pines are still upright. But I may be cutting them down in the near future.

I notice you didn't see any NJ trucks. If there were. the NJ utilities would have an uprising on their hands since they were needed here.

We don't have union problems in Tennessee, either. It's a "Right to Work" state. Guess the unions up that way didn't know that and you got some extra help, anyway! Glad they could help out. Most power companies, private or public, willingly help each other out since it's just about impossible for everyone to have enough employees and equipment to handle disasters. This is a fairly common practice in some other industries. Airlines do similar things. Railroads often share motive power, helps speed up the times for very long runs since they don't need to remove/replace equipment on unit trains (ones that are built one place and go all the way to one destination without rebuilding, often coast-to-coast).

Of course, these guys got the idea from Techsurvivors...

I've got a friend who lives in Redding. Was that area affected?
