A niece contacted me yesterday about becoming her friend. Got that by email, of course. That's the only way I know something has happened on my "wall" or anywhere else, I have never visited my page or group without some kind of message that there was a reason. Oh well...
I noticed that there was an 'unread' message. It was from the the friendly folks at FB, the same 'friends' that changed their policy last year by making more of your personal info public without your knowledge (until stuff started hitting the fan, so to speak). They have been busy editing and "improving" their Proposed Privacy and Proposed Rights & Responsibilities policies. They have even created a "Governance" group. I'm sure that group is composed of highly moral, informed and neutral parties that have the ability to fire and fine every FB employee and their families!
OTOH, it may just be a bunch of new-hires that will work hard to get a
real position as soon as possible...
Anyway, right off the bat, there are some 'interesting' changes. Of course, it is not actually in text form, so it cannot be copied and pasted, but here are just the first two changes that piqued my interest:

Notice the change about your transaction info? Originally it was "Opt IN." Not any more...
As you can see, it is at least easy to see what has been changed and how (This is from the "Redlined" version, BTW). After these paragraphs, there is a section on
Sharing Information On Facebook. It is almost completely new, except for a few paragraphs that are about 90% deleted and changed.
I'll stop here. When you are having trouble staying alert, just start <
reading the new policies>. Unless you are completely open to sharing all your personal info with any stranger who happens to get it, with or without your knowledge, I guarantee it will keep you awake!
I'll admit that I haven't read it all, yet. And much of it seems to be bringing these document(s) into compliance with the changes they made last year.
The "bottom line": It might be best to visit, at least ones information page, regularly, just to be sure your privacy settings have not been changed, behind your back.
I still don't intend to have anything more than the minimum required info there in order to 'participate' in the high school group that creates all my 'traffic.'
I guess I still don't understand why I should provide any corporation with information that they find valuable and yet not get paid for it.
What they seem to think is that the "service" they are providing, is somehow equivalent to some kind of payment!
I beg to differ, although I know not whom to 'beg!'
