Rebuilding Address Book, iCal etc after Crashed HD
« on: June 11, 2003, 04:01:12 PM »
Last Friday my HD started going caput, actually it was more like cachunk, but that's not really my question  tongue.gif

Fortunately, I was able to archive off my System's Library and all of my Home directory as well as some other apps and files.

Now after getting a new HD and reinstalling OSX 10.2.6, it's time to get my system back like it was.  So far I've been able to restore my Mail files (although the folders are out of order in the Mail Drawer - the INBOX Folder is not below the IN Tray but rather below the Junk Folder).

But the files I don't know how or which to restore are those bookmarks for IE and Safari, my contacts stored in AddressBook, and my iCal schedule.  I tried importing my old iCal Work.ics file but that didn't contain my schedule.

Also, how can I fix it so that the Colums view is my default, so that when I get a new finder window it automatically uses the Coulmns view instead of the Folders or List view?

I recently bought a new iBook to replace my clamshell iBook.  I copied my personal folder from the 'Users' folder on my clamshell HD, and put it on the new iBook.  That transferred all of my adddress book contacts, and probaqbly would have worked for my iCal entries, if there were any.  Didn't do anything for Mail or Safari, though.
To make the colums active should just require clicking on it.  Next time you open the folder, it ought to be in columns view.  I think you have to do that with every individual folder, though.

Actually, last night in futsing around with it I did find the fix for the columns view.  But I can't seem to recall how or where it was to fix the Finder to open all windows in columns view.  It was in the same place as where you can set whether new windows open up at your home directory or the base HD level.

I still need help getting iCal and my AddressBook restored  huh.gif

You can get the Finder to open all windows in columns view by going to the  Menu bar/ Finder/Preferences.
