"Pages" Warning/Alert
« on: June 12, 2010, 11:49:31 PM »
I am  a major league fan of Pages '09. But . . .

I am also beset by an error (or alert) panel that invariably appears whenever I open even a filed, completed, finished Pages document on my iMac, as well as every new doc. Every time!

It reads like this:

Oftentimes fonts – that presumably should be present (by whose order!) and are not – are mentioned. Sometimes it's "something else", essentially irrelevant to my beginning to use my favorite WP and Page Layout app.

Anyone have an idea how I can rid myself of these vexing "reminders"?

The vexing reminders are there because Pages thinks that there might be something wrong - and is therefore warning you. You may disagree with Pages' assessment of the situation, but without seeing the actual warnings, it's a little hard to guess what it thinks is wrong. wink.gif

One issue back in 2007/2008 was a font issue - not sure if it's still a problem, but here's the fix if it applies:

Thanks for the ref, Paddy.

I've now done some fooling around (technical description) w/FontBook's Menus and it appears that, by hook or crook, I'm cleaning up the fonts for Pages.

Somehow.

Have you read the "review" it offers? That will usually provide a list of fonts that are causing problem...just like when you open a PowerPoint file in Keynote... Of course, it could be something else, but we'll never know without looking at the "review."

It's always been some varieties of Arial, as I recall - this started months ago and there may have been others – so yesterday I dealt with duplicated file I didn't know I had, to the result that now I have single files of fonts I never use. And, again as I best recall, only and always in Pages. Huh?

Whatever, the "alarm" seems to be gone. If not, at least I have something I can do to hose it . . . maybe.

Paddy to the rescue.

Thank you, m'am.

Any of the iWorks Suite will give you that warning, if, and only if, there is a font in the file that you don't have or there is a corrupted font on your system (I think). If it's the former warning, you can click the "Review" button" and it will show you the included font and what it will substitute for it. It may also tell you other things. The point is, the app is trying to tell you something and clicking the "Review" button is the only way it can do that. It really, really wants to help you, but it is too kind to force or even beg. tease.gif I usually get these with the seemingly hundreds of PPT files that others find an irresistible need to forward. Since they are 99.9% of the time made on a Windows machine and someone has only recently discovered fonts, they almost always have something I don't have (and probably don't want). rofl.gif One of these days, I'm sure there will be something more interesting in these warnings...but it takes only seconds to read them and then ignore. dntknw.gif

Except many times I am warn-ED but not then (via R-e-v-i-e-w) inform-ED. Yes, that's right.

So I have just done what I could do via inspection, verstehen Sie?
