Bargain Basement Smartphones?

I'm not sure the price is what sells the iPhone...

Just as Apple has never competed on price in computers, they don't seem to be trying to enter that 'ring' (boxing or sound alert!) with smart phones or tablets.

Didn't it seem like the earlier iPhones were going cheaper on a plan now when you saw the slide show?  $99 was something I saw I think!  Here's what I see now:

I guess I still don't understand the question. I'm of the impression that Apple stops making each model iPhone when it is ready to announce the next one, probably more like several months before that, even. Tha only 3GS hardware on sale is more than likely what was already n the supply chain when the newest one started selling. So, I'd have to agree that they won't be around (for sale) too long. That doesn't mean they will all evaporate, of course, but they probably won't be sold in AT&T or Apple stores.
