Refurbished or Brand new?

So I could buy it on my daughter's behalf?  But I can't use the educational discount on a refurb, only a new one and then use the iPod Touch deal too?

Apple Care costs alot imho - an extra £231 for 3 years which is alot for me tbh

Frances, they don't offer the ed discount on the refurbs and there is no iPod Touch deal on refurbs either. So you'd need to choose.

Adobe offers ed discounts to students in elementary and secondary school in the UK: https://store2.adobe.com/cfusion/store/html...ent=displayHome

However, CS3 should work in Snow Leopard, contrary to all the early reports last summer.

Whether there are any serious issues or not, I don't know.

Frances:  What I have experienced is that you have to check daily on the "refurb" page.  ie:  I found the "mini" only after checking daily for over a 3 week period.  One day it just showed up. Same with the Ipod touch.

I do NOT  use CS3 as a professional tool, however I am running it with SL on 2 machines and it does work for my purpose. I have found no glitches.  Not a recommendation just FWIW.

Thank you everyone.  Now I have just go to convince OH to take my iBook and I may consider parting with some money!  I am not sure if I can justify it at the moment!

It worked for me except for the printing issue, which I consider to be so serious that CS3 became unusable in Snow Leopard. See my initial reply in this thread.

Now, you see I save and then print having saved the tiff to disk.  I get them printed by the local camera shop for clients on nice paper using professional quality ink.

My printer really isn't up to that task and also the ink costs an arm and a leg.  Considering the rest of the family use the printer to print off their daily crossword puzzles (cryptic, general and soduko), I cannot justify the expense of photo quality print ink.

In that case, it might be best to keep CS3 for awhile. You can always upgrade later when you have more funds. If everything works to your satisfaction, there is no compelling reason to upgrade now.

The main difference is that you cannot customize a refurb when you order it - what you see is what you get, although there have been cases of people getting MORE than what was advertised (ie: more RAM etc.) - it would appear that Apple doesn't necessarily downgrade the returned machines to their original base model state. However, I think that is the exception rather than the rule.

Haha, Paddy.  I have experienced this first hand.

I just received my new referbed iMac last week which was supposed to have a 1 TB hard drive and to my amazement it came with the 2 TB drive!  Tack on another $180 savings from the Apple web site.  Helped when explaining the bill for this behemoth to the little lady.

Also recently purchased 2 MacBooks referbed, works fine so far and am real happy with them all.

I think you meant 2 TB drive.  smile.gif

My Performa 6300 had a whopping 1.2 GB drive.
