The "New" Computer Has Arrived
« Reply #31 on: June 22, 2003, 10:02:56 PM »
Good Evening All,

I awoke in the middle of the night last night to the most horrific sound.
Rolling thunder that sounded lke it was in the attic above me and lightening flashed that were so bright it made it seem like it was morning!
The thunder was interminable, it seemded not to be moving away, but went on and on...
The fire and emergency vehicles went by shortly after the thunder and lightening stopped.  Iknew then, that someoe's house must have been hit. It knocked out power in a good sized neighborhood  in a nearby city.
I had to get up and see if the computer was alright.  Everything was fine.
I had to sing this morning with choir, we had four Baptisms this morning, and Mass seemed to go on forever.
I just hate it when I have my sleep interrupted
and have something important to do first thing in the morning.  I was exhausted.  I came home, had breakfast and went to sleep.  I have been sleeping on and off
all day.  I tried to read the Mac Bible but I wasn't able to grasp anything in the way of concepts.  Now here it is 10:53 EST and I am wide awake. I have to try to get to bed, as I am back to Radiation first thing
tomorrow. Tomorrow is another adventure for me and I will lt you know what it is all about - later!
Gregg - thank you, I needed that pat on the back.
Dreambird - are you sure it didn't hear you?

Pretty sure Myrna... wink.gif
I was very quiet... *LOL** I just hate it when I say something is working well and then *poof** as if to say: "Na na na boo boo"...  dry.gif

About the T-Storms we had a series of fearful ones a couple of nights or so back... my poor little doggie, Spencer hates the noise, so I had him in my lap till it passed by.

Talk to you tomorrow if you're up to it! smile.gif

Dreambird - Hello,

I hope that your dog, Spenser, is a "lap" dog and not one of those hounds that weigh slightly less than a grand piano. LOL
With a good sized hound,
it would be terrible if the storms went on for any length of time, bad for your circulation, I hear. LOL

Perhaps, we can "talk"later over a coffee

Welcome back, jepinto,

How was your bowling trip?

I will be going to get some computer stuff today.  I need to figure out why the print is  smeared, in spots, when they come out of the printer.  Maybe, I have to do a little cleaning.

As for sending me any broken printers to fix
well, don't go throwing any "Bouquets" at me just yet... then it might just be a case of you gets what you gets and you likes it! LOL  thanx.gif again for the tip.

The trip was grand.  Good food, good friends, weather was somewhat nice Saturday evening, got to walk the beach, play in the waves, picked up some itsy bitsy teeny weeny yellow polka dot......seashells (down, Bill, I did NOT say bikinis).

Oh...you asked about bowling.....let's just say it's a good thing I keep my day job....we were a bit off, so no glory, but we had a good time.

And don't feel bad about bowling in someone else's lanes.  If they wanted tto bowl all by them lonesomes, they'd build their house.  Durn people just gotta learn to share!  devilishgrin.gif

Morning jepinto,

Well everyone has different gifts.  I looked more like a softball pitcher in that bowling alley.

When I say that I lobbed the bowling ball, I mean, it went totally up in the air and sideways, came crashing down into the next lane (about half way down the lane) and then down into the gutter.
Needless to say, people were not amused.

I did finally learn how to control the direction after a while, but I never could really shine in that sport.  At best, I was mediocre and at worst...well we won't talk about that.

My favorite part of the whole thing was the banquet at the end of the League year. LOL

Sooo, you've been picking up 'skimpy' seashells have you?

Good Evening All,

After the machinations I put my Personal LaserWriter 320 through, it began producing print with streaks and smears on all my pages.  No, I don't think it was being creative.

Today, I decided to treat it to a nice little cleaning.  After picking up the supplies at Staples: One can of compressed air, with monitor cleaner and cloth and one package of laser cleaner papers.

After thoroughly  blowing out the dust inside, removing the toner cartridge and giving that a good spray as well, I am  happy to report that the printer is printing out clean, legible copies.

As my computer is currently residing on my dining room table, I had a quick look at computer furniture while at Staples. I was shocked at the prices of what is stamped out particle board with a thin coating of simulated wood graining.  It is definitely time for me to go to some tag sales/ moving sales.
It would be nice to reclaim my dining room table for the purpose for which it was intended.

Hi Mrs. Lop,

I've been watching your threads since you joined...just haven't had anything unique to add to your adventures until now..smile.gif

About a desk. Consider a generic table like this one at:
Office Depot

We use these...the cheap kind...and they've lasted for years. My husband and I work side by side and we each have one. Another sits behind us to be used as work space for spreading out papers and such...(It also collects junk but that's not its purpose. blush-anim-cl.gif. For that matter the one I have my monitor on also collects junk which is why it will never be in one of the "galleries" that pop up here when people start talking about their work space. doh.gif )

These tables so useful, ..slide a small filing cabinet under part of it, in my case the tower is under one end. It holds my monitor on a keyboard "drawer" (purchased separately), keyboard that hides leaving a space to write on,(also means that as long as the keyboard is out and in use, junk can't collect on that spot so when I push it into the drawer, there is alway a clean spot tongue.gif ), a laser printer and that box of junk and assorted papers, a lamp, a paper stand, speakers...arrange it however it best suits. The price can hardly be beat...we got ours on sale for approx $30.

Just an option..smile.gif Nice to meet ya. smile.gif

see ya,
Diana

Hello and thanx.gif Diana,

Nice to meet you and welcome into the adventure.
I was just looking at a similar one at Staples
on sale for $ 30.00.

I love a really good deal.
Sometimes, people who are moving have really nice things which they just can't fit into a new house. Some change  their decor or bought a brand new one.

I like real wood.  Most computer tables are made of particle board.  It's a good thing that I like a good challenge, too.

It may take a little looking around but I'll find something.
*******
Stop back anytime and don't feel you have to say anything profound - Just a "Hi MrsLop" is welcome.

That invitation extends to the rest of you lurking around out there too! Come on in and be a part of my "adventure".

Good Morning kelly,

Goodwill in RI consists of one store.  We have a good many more Salvation Army stores and consignment stores.

During the good weather, my husband and I are often out going to tag sales and the like.  I have often found really good things at them.
Two weekends ago, I found a solid wood Mahogany  desk chair with ball casters for $ 5.00 for my husband's office. I knew what it was before I even got out of the car.
It was made by the same company that provides furniture for Congress and the White House. They are heavy and solid.
$ 10.00 is a good price for a decent computer desk. When I see them they are usually in the $25.00 range at a yard sale.

Thanks for triggering the thought of other sources.
