I lost My Safari v1.0 Favicons
« on: June 25, 2003, 01:39:38 PM »
Safari 1.0 no longer displays the favicons as it had been doing. verysad.gif  The installation of v1.0 went fine and I have been successfully using it since last Monday.

I ran DW, fsck -y (no problems noted), and repaired permissions, all to no avail. I then reinstalled Safari v1.0. Again to no avail. I have also restarted from my other drives and restarted from a shut down. Nada.

I suspect something is corrupt, but I have not a clue where or what that might be.

I know this is hardly a problem in the grand scheme of things or is life altering in any way, but it really does frustrate me that a small problem like this is so difficult (for me) to solve.

Any suggestions?

TIA

Harv

That little icon next to the URL in the address bar.

Safari also shows the favicons in the bookmarks.

OH. That's what it is.
Sorry Harv. Can't help you with that.

Never knew what the below did till the subject came up though.

There's an article on MacFixIt about Safari problems. One solution is to find all Safari pieces and trash them. Then install a fresh copy. I have no idea what would happen to all your bookmarks though.

Have you tried just trashing the com.apple.Safari.plist?

You could also try Reset Safari... and Empty Cache...both can be found under the [/b]Safari Menu[/b]...resetting Safari will, amongst other things, trash all your cookies, so you will have to keep that in mind.

Sometimes (rarely) when I think my post is too obtuse or mundane, I will also post it at MFI. I also enjoy returning to MFI, and in my typical gentle manner, advising that the wizards and kind hearts at TS have already resolved the issue.

But, for the first time in a very long time (if ever) MFI rose to the occasion. A chap named Hal Itosis suggested going to ~/Library/Safari/Icons/00-->15, deleting these files and then relaunching Safari. That did it.

What is best is that I learned a bit and can now share that tidbit with all of you.

Thanks so very much. Really. Yeah, MFI solved the problem, but you are my friends.
